Q: Januvia 100 mg. for Diabetes… can they increase dose?
Is it common for the dosage to be increased to TWO 100 mg tablets daily? Of course I won’t do it until I ask the doctor, but I need to know if anyone takes a higher dose than one 100 mg. tab daily?

I can’t/won’t take Metformin, etc. (weight gain), and do NOT want to start insulin. I’m hoping to get off all the medicine when I lose the weight – still about a year away. Meantime, am exploring options. Januvia works, but now it seems I need more.
I do fairly well with food choices and exercise, but not fast enough.

Anybody out there take more than 100 mg. daily of Januvia?

THANKS!
.

A: Metformin is supposed to help with weight loss, not add the pounds on. Of course it does have other side effects, but it is effective in managing glucose and is really cheap (unlike Januvia which costs way too much). When I was taking it I found that the extended release tablets were much better. Now I’m paying a fortune for Januvia – 100mg daily. Don’t know if it is approved for more.

Q: My fasting blood Glucose is 203 mg/dl, is this a bad sign ?
I have diabetes I take glucophage after breakfast and dinner and 1 pill of JANUVIA after launch I was taking glucovance 2 times per day and my fasting blood sugar went to 219 mg/dl my doctor changed the medicine to glucophage and JANUVIA he asked me to do sugar test in the lab after 2 weeks. As you can see the result is 203 mg/dl after 2 weeks of taking JANUVIA.

What should I do ? is this dangerous ?

plz.

A: Damn. I take glucophage. Actually i take the generic version of that which is Metformin. I’ve also taken Januvia. Both work for me, however Metformin makes me lose a little weight which is nice. So I’ve been taking that instead.

Hmm.
So it sounds like the numbers didn’t change too much.
Do you eat a lot of sugar or carbs?
If so, you need to fully eliminate. Its tough at first but I’m insulin resistant and I’d do anything to not get diabetes. So I don’t eat any sugar (except on occasion). Carb intake is a little difficult for me, but I definately dont eat as much as I used to. And by the way, I’m only 15. I got insulin resistance from Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, which I also have.

So to answer your question, I would reduce (and if possible, eliminate) carb and sugar intake (carbohydrates turn into sugar) and maybe consult further with your doctor, or even seek out some other doctors.

Glucophage is a fairly strong sugar pill, so strong I can only take a half a pill before each meal, but i can only take it twice a day or else I start geting hypoglycemia symptems. Although keep in mind I’m only Insulin Resistant.
Januvia isnt as strong, and from my understanding, it was to be taken once a day. Not at mealtimes.

I’m not sure if this is any help, but if so, and you need to know more or whatever, contact me.

Q: My doctor and the lab he uses say 6.0 is the top limit on the A1C?
fasting blood sugar test. My result was 6.1 and my doctor and
his PA-C have given me prescription for Januvia 100mg, one
tablet daily. Is a tenth of a point over the limit enough to call for
for oral diabetes medicine?. As far as I know I have not been over the limit before. I would appreciate any good advice especially from MDs and RNs or RDs particularly in the area
of diabetes treatment. Thank you.

A: I would interpret your A1 also in conjunction with your fasting sugars. Most doctors would start out with an ADA diet and go for weight loss if your A1 is under 7 and your fasting sugars average under 140 or perhaps even a little higher. Sit down with him and explore the possibility of dietary control in a highly motivated patient.

Q: Help!!!! Rx in TV ads?
I need to lists prescription medicines shown on TV commercials i.e. Januvia, Humira, Crestor, Abilify. I barely had the time to watch television these days. I would really appreciate it. :)

A: There is hardly a drug out there that does not have DTC advertising.
