Q: Has anyone tried the new drug for diabetes called Sitagliptin (Januvia)?
What are its side effects? How effective is it compared to other drugs?

A: Apparently not.

Q: januvia/how long is the patent of this drug good for?

A: Patents range from APR 24,2017 to JUL 26,2022 for Januvia. But these things can change. They can get extensions, for example. Other companies can challenge patents. They can offer licenses or manufacture a generic themselves. So these dates don’t mean that much. But you can see it will be a long time.

Q: how long is the patent for the drugs: vioxx and januvia? i need year.?

A: I reproduce below a note in this respect which will make the position clear.

The biggest of these, in 2006, was the expiration of the patent on its successful cholesterol drug, Zocor, which fed coffers at Merck to the tune of more than $4 billion in 2005. The losses will continue into the future. In 2008, it will lose osteoporosis drug, Fosamax, and glaucoma drug Cosopt, and in 2010, the patent for anti-hypertensive drug, Cozaar.

Further, lawsuits against Merck for its arthritis drug, Vioxx, will continue to cost the company massive amounts in the upcoming years. Analysts predict that the suits will cost Merck hundreds of millions of dollars, if not billions. Merck withdrew the drug in 2004 due to concerns about increased risk of heart attacks among those who took it. It had been one of the most widely prescribed drugs in the country up until then.

Q: Has anyone heard of Januvia? It”s a brand new med approved in October?
My diabetes educator gave a months worth of samples but I’m not sure whether to take them or not because the drug is so new. For one thing, anyone remember Vioxx and Celebrex? Didn’t those drugs kill people? and also since it’s so new it won’t be in any insurance formulary. So I was wondering, should I give her the samples back and ask for something else to handle my sugar spikes?
I am currently also on actos and metformin plus 13 units of Lantus once a day

A: i take januvia and it is worth trying. so far it has not seemed as effective as byetta but it beats having all the shots.

Q: I have diabetes (no insulin) & recently my dr told me to take 100mg of Januvia once a day…?
I am 25, and i got diabetes a couple years ago after getting sick in Mexico (speculation is that a virus attacked my pancreas). I am not on insulin, but recently was put on 100mg of Januvia once a day. It didn’t help so now my dr wants me to take a drug called metformin or something along with the januvia… I’m wondering why i should continue taking the Januvia if it didn’t work??? I’m not comfortable with the whole thing. Thanks

A: What happens is that Januvia basically increases insulins synthesis and release in the body and Metformin helps to decrease the amount of glucose production in the body and help increase insulin sensitivity. So that is why he prescribed it. Now I would definitely see if you can go on Janumet. I just check the price differences and the combination is much cheaper than getting them separately.

Q: Is Byetta effective in lowering Blood Sugar & loosing weight?
I am diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Till yesterday, I was taking Januvia+Amaryl+metaformin after dinner. My BG values were coming as 90-100 fasting & around 100 after food. I weigh 118 KG & it is not reducing even after exercising for one & half hour daily. My doctor advised to start 5mg Byetta twice daily. Today morning I had first shot.
Would anyone please help me by providing the actual experience about this drug & whether I would really loose some weight ?

A: Byetta improves blood sugar control by mimicking the action of the hormone incretin. Among other things, Byetta allows insulin to work more effectively in the body.

Studies of Byetta found that it not only improved blood sugar control but also led to weight loss. It’s unclear exactly how Byetta causes weight loss, but one effect of the drug is that it delays the movement of food from the stomach into the small intestine. As a result, people taking Byetta may feel “full” faster and longer, so they eat less. The most common side effect with Byetta is mild to moderate nausea, which improves with time in most people.

Byetta is designed for people who have diabetes and has not been studied as a weight-loss aid in people with normal blood sugar. If you have diabetes and wonder if Byetta may be helpful, talk to your doctor.

Q: My New Girl Friend Takes Too Many Drugs.?
I have been dating a woman who is 41 years old for about 3 months. I am staying at her house tonight while she works. She has a Lazy Susan thing full of pills on the kitchen table. I am not being nosy but worried if I she be concerned if any of the following drugs are used to treat STD’s or communicable dieases. I would look them all up individually but she sometimes uses my laptop and would see them in the search history. I will list them if they are something I should be concerned about let me know. I don’t think she has anything but is adamant that we use condoms although she has had her tubes tied. She told me it was because she was diabetic and suspectible to infections is why. I just want to be sure.

Q: Need Someone’s Advice?
This is a long story and I will admit I am somewhat loopy because I am on Morophine and Zofran.
Okay I am a diabetic I don’t have any insurance so I haven’t been treating it as I can’t afford the meds (Januvia) I can’t take Metformin or Glimerpride.

So Christmas day I swelled up like a toad and my urine is dark and my nose started bleeding. I knew my BP was high and I took my meds (Lasix) to lower my BP and to get the edema out of my system. All week long I had kidney and bladder pain (extremely bad). I called my family doctor and he called in a antibotic as I and he were assuming this was a bladder infection. So today I started peeing a lot of fresh blood and the pain was increasing a lot. So I got myself to the ER they did a urinalysis, blood tests, and a CAT scan. The doctor said that he should admit me but I had to promise I would see this Urologist ASAP. He would tell me what he thought was wrong but he said my Kidney Function test were real bad and he seen seen something on the CAT scan (but not kidney stones) and I had gross hematuria. I said I have no insurance he grabbed my arm and said very stern “I said you Must see a urologoist right away”. I am scared does anybody have any ideas of what he might have seen? I am going to try to see the urologist if they will take payments. If not I don’t know what I will do. He said I need a scope and more tests right away. I need some advice. Again I apologize they have me on a lot of pain drugs and antibotics and I hope this all makes sense.

A: I THINK YOU REALLY NEED THAT SPECIALIST AND A PROPER DIAGNOSIS

YOU ARE DIABETIC AND NEED ESPECIALLY TO LOOK AFTER YOURSELF

Q: Gall Bladder removed and blood sugar sky rockets….?
I was diagnosed with diabetes two years ago. After adjusting some drugs I had my blood sugar completely back to normal. in February I had my gall bladder removed. I found out later that my gall bladder really wasn’t the problem. Januvia had been shooting up my liver enzymes and making me vomit. Anyway….since I had my gall bladder removed, my blood sugar has been ranging from 250-400. I had to increase my insulin and now I take short and long acting and the lowest I get my sugar is 150. While I was in the hospital the doctors noticed a pocket of fluid in my lower abdomen and they said that it was more than likely from some sort of infection or scar tissue from prior surgeries. After my gall bladder was out, they had me out of the hospital the next day. The fluid was never explained. Now when I sneeze or if I push on my lower abdomen I have pain. Not major pain but enough to bother me.
Could someone please tell me if they have had a similar experience…..

A: i would check back with the doc it sounds like you have an infection going and this can increase your blood sugar have them do blood work also find out about the pocket of fluid in abd they should give you a better answer then what they did they sound like they are just guessing is it infection or scar tissue ask and wait for the answer meanwhile i wouldnt load up on the watermelon as suggested or any large amount of carbs your sugar is already way too high
