Q: whats the difference between novalog and humalog insulin?
A: They’re essentially the same, they’re both fast acting insulins. Humalog works the tiniest bit faster. It’s a better choice for our 5 year old: Being so young, she’s not always able to commit to the carbs she’s been given (eyes are bigger than the stomach logic). This is coupled by the fact that she’s a munchkin and doesn’t get a ton of insulin, every half unit matters when counting carbs, due to her weight. Gina gets her insulin mid- to end-meal for a safer bolus. Humalog works around 5 minutes faster.
Q: Why does it take several hours for my morning insulin dose to kick in?
I take Humalog insulin. This insulin claims to start working within 15 minutes of injection. When I eat breakfast, I inject the recommended amount, but it takes up to 3 hrs for the insulin to start working, resulting in a spike in my blood sugar. Other meals during the day, the insulin seems to work OK (begins to take effect within 15 min). This may seem like a really technical question, but I’ve not received an answer yet, so i’ll try yahoo.
A: There is a phenomenon known as Dawn Phenomenon that causes this reaction. It is usually caused by your insulin levels during sleeping hours. Ask your doctor about adjusting your evening insulin, if applicable, or about changing to a different regime.
Q: what is the insulin similar to humalog from novo nordisk company?
I need the exact name of the insulin similar to ones of Novo Nordisk. This isulin has a onset of 15 minutesthe peak is 40-50 minuets and the duration of action is 3-5.if somebody address me the exact name specially which brand is avaiable in Germany?Iwant to use it with Lantus insulin as basal.
A: novolog. Remember lantus needs to be injected separately from any other insulin injection.
Q: I just took 80 units of humalog insulin it was suppose to be 80 units of lantus this is 2nd 80 unit i 2hr?
A: thats alot of insulin, I would go to the ER fast before you become symptomatic especially if you are alone.
check you blood sugar now so you know where that stands
i would definitely call a hospital and get their advice if you don’t want to go in
Q: what site is better for injection of lantus and humalog insulin?
AS ABOVE
A: They say to alternate sites between arms, thighs, and abdomen to prevent breakdown of the skin. I gave insulin shots for over 20 years as a med. tech. and that was taught. I found out it also has alot to do with personal preference.
My daughter used humalog for over 16 years and for her it was the fat in her abdomen. Me, I use lantus and use my abdomen also, it is easier for me and doesn’t seem to hurt like the other sites. I just don’t use the same spot all the time.
Q: My mom start takes insulin Humalog today. ?
Her sugar before dinner was 190 then she took 5 units of Humalog and her sugar drops to a 180 1 1/2 Hr later. If you have your experience with Humalog please let me know, because i try to figure it out how many units is right for her. Doctor tell us to start from 5 units.
thanks
she have a type 2 diabetes
A: I can’t help you with the insulin dosage as it has been my life’s goal to learn all I can about type two and stay off insulin. So far, I’ve been successful.
As to the manufactured controversy over whether type twos become type one or not, please bear in mind that there is absolutely no support of this ridiculous assumption from any reputable source anywhere. They positively are two different diseases with two entirely different causes and the ONLY thing they have in common is the resultant high blood sugar (if left uncared for). Sure the complications are the same, but that’s because of the resultant high blood sugar, not the disease… the mechanisms that cause the high blood sugar are totally different.
Q: How often should a diabetic on insulin expect to have a hypoglycemic episode?
I have Type 2 and I take metformin (Glucophage) and glimepiride (Amaryl), in addition to 30 IU of 24-hour insulin (Lantus) and about 100 IU of rapid acting insulin (Humalog 2-3 hr) each day.
My blood glucose is not controlled really well. It skates along in the 150-200 mg/dL range.
If I am to get my blood glucose under control, how often can I expect to have a hypoglycemic episode?
A: If you get your glucose under control, you won’t have hypoglycemic episodes. That would not define control. As far adding as protein snacks, don’t do anything without your doctor’s knowledge and advice. Make sure your doctor is aware of your daily levels. Dosage adjusments may be in order.
Q: can humalog insulin cause chronic coughing?
A: i have never heard of that did you try to ask your doctor or pharmacists this question any type of reaction though is possible to a medication i would ask them
Q: if you overdose on humalog, a fast acting insulin, can you reverse it. will i have brain damage?
please dont give me mean comments..i need to know about hypoglemic (low sugar) shock or coma and if 2 Lilly pens would cause that and if i will be salvageable – as in, complete brain function..
A: If you have made a mistake and taken too much go to your GP or hospital immediately and tell them what you ahve done.
If you get hypoglycaemia it does nto automatically mean brain damage but can led to it. depends on how fast youget help. If you are like this then you can’t help yourself anyway. too far gone.
Brain need sugar to function so if it is in the wrong type, or the cells can’t take it in then you have brain damage.
If you ahev troubels now go to a hospital fast. G
Q: If I give the Lantus insulin first by itself is it ok to give my Humalog insulin in the same syringe second?
I know you can’t give Lantus with anything else as it deactivates the Lantus. But will it deactivate the Humalog too?
I don’y want to use 2 syringes as it gets expensive, the insurance is limited.
A: I understand your concern but you shouldn’t risk a tiny bit of cross contamination. It can ruin both bottles of insulin and cost more in the long run.
Perhaps have one syringe for each kind of insulin and reuse up to 2-3 times.
Mark a cup “Lantus ” and put your once used syringes from lantus in there.
Mark another cup ” humalog ” and keep the humalog syringes there.
I hope that helps
Q: If Your diabetic and don’t have or can’t afford a doctor, what other ways are there to get your insulin?
Not just any insulin Humalog. Also the matter of supplies is at hand. Testing strips, needles,
Then what about pump suppiles? Like infusion sets and such? If I have insurance and don’t get a RX can they/ will they cover it?
Cheap as possible please.
A: There are plenty of free clinics around the country, and almost any hospital will give you the needed prescription for medication.
Plus depending on your financial situation, there is always medicaid, which is state run form of medical welfare, so actually there is no excuse for anyone to suffer and not get needed medications.
Q: humalog 75/25 insulin dose?
i am diabetic #2 my doctor prescribe 75/25 humalog . can somebody tell me what is the dose for this insulin twice a day ? My sugar in the morning and evening is somewhat high( 180 and ) help please.
A: Humaglog 75/25 is taken 15 minutes before each meal, and a dosage is usually set by your doctor. To help keep your insulin level during the day and night, you need to be on another insulin. Levemir is better than Lantus SoloStar, as the Lantus tends to make you put on weight. These insulins are taken upon waking in the morning, and before going to bed at night; this dosage is also set by your doctor. The way to help your doctor determine your dosages is by keeping a log (before meal #, # of carbs per meal, after 2 hours #).
I sort of understand this because I was on Lantus, but gained a bit of weight on it, so the doctor switched me to Levemir and I’m starting to lose again. I’m also on the Humalog 75/25.
Good luck.
Q: Humalog Insulin Pens?
There is
1 box ( 5 pens x 300 units/pen)
using 10 units before each meal.
How would I solve this and how many days supply would this last?
A: multiply your pens(5) by units(300)=1500 and divide by 10=150 .This will give you the number of meals it will cover. Then divide by 7 (days). This will give you approximately the number of days. (21)
Q: how much does the humalog unrefrigerated pen cost in the united states?
I just learned that there is an unrefrigerated insulin pen, Humalog. I was wondering if anybody has used this and what is the price, in the United States, at Walmart, if possible.
A: 100
Q: Do I use the right dose of Lantus and Humalog insulins?
I am a case of IDDM i intected 55 unit mixtard 30/70 two times per day. Now I shiftted to Lantus and HUMALOG. I inject 28 unit Lantus AT BED TIME AND APROX 5 UNIT HUMALOG AFTER BREAKFAST 8-10 UNIT HUMALOG AFTER LUNCH AND DINNER .Do I USE THE RIGHT DOSE? MY BS IS IN normal range.Have you any recomendation for me?
A: The best advice I ever got about this was that your blood sugar in the morning should be the same as it was before you went to bed, because this means that your background dose (lantus) is right. You should ask your dr about carb counting or dafne courses if you have type 1 diabetes as these can help you to get your control better and mean that you have heaps more freedom about what and when to eat. But if your blood sugars are ok then that’s a pretty good sign your dose is right for you. I now use a pump but you’re on almost exactly the same as what I took when I was on lantus/humalog. Remember everyone needs different amounts of insulin depending on their metabolism, diet, level of exercise etc. – it’s really a case of trial and error to find out what’s right for you, but if you’re blood sugars are good and you’re not feeling ill (esp. if you’re not feeling like you’ve been hit by a bus in the mornings as this means you could be hypo during the night and might need to reduce your lantus dose) then don’t worry – you’re doing better than most! Hope that helps – good luck xx
