Q: what is going on with Avandia medicine?
Avandia Medicine is used to treat type 2 diabetes, I had tremendious swelling in my feet and legs, once I quite it my legs and feet returned to normal, but I am taking nothing and my sugar is again in the 200’s
I have type 2 diabetes, my feet were swelled very bad 2 different doctors , could not figure out what was causing it , Cardio put me on lasix, We had seen all the bad press about avandia onTV, so I tried to talk to doctor about avandia, he said it was just a lot of press hype, but my family wanted me to quite it so I did . My swelling went away. but I want to know do I have other damage from taking this.
A: about half the people who were on Avandia developed the edema or swelling. Some even died!!
Quite possibly you do have some residual damage from that. I have a heart murmur from the Actos med which caused edema in me.
Talk to your doctor and find a different med!!
You will die just as well if you leave the glucose numbers out of control.
If a doctor gives you the run around about what meds, find another doctor. If the doctor just pats you on your butt and says take this, but doesn’t discuss it with you, find another doctor.
Q: Is there a medicine in place of Avandia?
A: Actos is another option. It can have risks too, but that’s the case with any drug. Certainly talk to your doctor. I actually want to come off Actos and just use insulin because insulin is more natural.
Q: has anyone stopped using western medicine and switched to chinese medicines ?
i am type 2 diabetic and was taking 8 mg of avandia and my glucose was still high , i now use golden book tea pills from a chinese herbalist , there are many others that work from plum flower brand chinese medicine mall on the web , my herbalist carries most of them but i am doing great with glucose and no more western medicines , has anyone experienced bad effects from using chinese medicine
A: I think that a lot of the time chinese medicine is better. When i was having asthma problems, i went to my american doctor and they gave me all sorts of pills and controllers and it made it worse. Then my mom convinced me to use chinese medicine and it really worked. Chinese medicine is usually a bunch of herbs that are good for you anyways. It shouldn’t be harmful unless you’re allergic. And it really works- i always say that american medicine is good for antibiotics and pain relievers, but chinese meds are good if you really want to be healed naturally and effectively.
Q: Has anyone been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and been prescribed avandia?
My doctor recently put me on avandia hoping to lower my blood sugar, because I hadn’t had a period in 2 months. My husband and I are trying to have a baby, and the doctor said we would try lowering my sugar, and then put my on a medicine called Byetta ( which is a insulin shot) to help. I have been on avandia now for exactly 5 weeks and started my period today. Avandia is known to causes ovulation… any advice? does anyone think this med. could have worked this fast and going to help me ovulate already?? has anyone been put on this med. before to help for ovulation? or periods? or mainly just to lower blood sugar?? any help would be appreciated!!
A: No, but here’s so info on avandia for you. Hope it helps. Best of luck!
Q: Do I have any chances of getting off meds?
I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes at age 39, six years ago and this summer went on Lantus insulin once a day. I want to get completely off all the meds I am on. I want to talk to someone who has actually done it. Anyone out there a former user of insuling, glucophage and avandia who is now controlling it just with diet and exercise. I am soooo down about being on insulin and want to make some drastic changes. need advice. maybe even alternative medicine advice. thanks.
A: My grandma has diabeties and I dont think she takes insilin…. once you learn to control your blood sugar I dont think you need insilin anymore…..
Q: Why would the FDA approve…?
A medicine for type two diabetes, when it increases the chances of having heart attacks? The medicine is Avandia, and my mom is a type two diabetic, meaning she is not insulin dependent. About a year ago, the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio sent my mom a letter informing her NOT to take Avandia again, because of those dangerous side effects. She was not on that medicine at the time, however, she was on that medicine for just a short amount of time; something like 2 weeks. Now, here we are a year later, and the FDA approved this medicine, that in all honesty, is no good because of all the side affects the FDA is claiming it to have, however, they go and re-approve the medicine to be prescribed. Why would the FDA do this?
A: they care about money more then the health of people
Q: Need advice about getting off of meds…?

A: I personally have not had diabetes. I do know people who are and one is off of their medicine, the other used to take 100 units of insulin per day, he now just takes a shot once per week. He’s done this through a nutritional program. Contact me if you want to learn more. I can also arrange to put you in touch with the latter person.
You can hear the latter persons testimony at (Uncle Lee):

Q: Diabetes Study. What in the world are diabetics supposed to do now?
I’m good about taking my medicine hoping to keep my numbers down. I’m still taking Avandia, even though studies have shown the bad side effects that result. My doctor has not discussed the findings on either the Avandia report or the one that discusses that tight control really has little bearing on whether you will get and possible die from diabetes complications. I’m thinking about stopping the medicine, and going all natural. How are we supposed to trust these drug companies whose main concern seems to be to get these drugs on the market as soon as possible, not the safety of the people who take their drugs. It seems that money is their only real concern and we’re just guinea pigs. I’s like they’ll make all the money they can and so what if a few people die from the medication itself – we’ll have our billions by the time they take it off the market.
A: Best thing to do is to go with a medicine that has been proven effective with the least amount of side efects.
Diet and exercise are very helpful for diabetics.
Good luck.
Q: How can I stay thin while being a diabetic?
I’ve struggled with my weight since I became diabetic (level 2) 10 years ago due to severe pancreatitis. I gained weight very quickly as I had a high insulin level and was taking Avandia. After having a baby and gaining 80 lbs with NO diet change, I started running, all the time and finally started losing..well it’s been 7 years later and I’m finally at my goal, I’m 5′8 and about 138 pounds. Now my blood sugar is low all the time, I eat small frequent meals and still find myself shaking and rushing to find some sugar. This really sucks..I don’t want to die a horrible death from having high sugar all the time (when I’m overweight it’s high) , and I don’t want to die young from low blood sugar! I’ve already had seizures from being low and sleeping in without eating.
I’m going to get a C peptide test to see where I stand on my insulin levels and to make sure I haven’t switched over to type 1, I’m on no medicines either and watch my diet carefully. I just want to have balance without having to eat junk all the time.
Thanks Robert…I try exercising to help burn off the calories from the extra food I have to eat sometimes…but that makes me bottom out so darn quick! I suppose taking candies with me and slow paced walks is the answer for me.
Thanks wild lotus..but test all the time! More than I should because I feel like I’m bottoming out and I want to know whats going on. My poor fingertips LOL.
A: You need to be recording your blood sugars on a regular basis so you can show your doctor exactly what’s going on. Ideal times to test are fasting, and then 2 hours after each meal, right before you snack. It really sounds like your weight loss has effectively nipped your diabetes in the bud. That’s why they encourage people to lose weight. You may need to add more healthy carbs to your diet to stabilize your sugars.
