avandia Drug

Q: What are contents or ingredients of avandia diabetes drug?
A: Avandia, I believe, is comprised of one chemical and one chemical alone, Rosiglitazone, which is the class of diabetes drugs called thiazolidinediones, as is the drug Actos. I also believe it’s in the process of being recalled or discontinued, because of multiple reports of heart attacks and other heart incidents, anaemia when combined w/ metformin, liver problems and heightened triglycerides, I think it is, in some patients. I would strongly caution against using this drug until you have done further research. Usually, when a drug is in the process of being recalled or discontinued, the situation is far worse than the public is being told, and there are usually far more adverse reactions than the public is being told.
Q: The diabetes drug Avandia is linked to a greater risk of heart attack and possibly death, Worth the risk?
The widely prescribed diabetes drug Avandia is linked to a greater risk of heart attack and possibly death, a new scientific analysis revealed, and the U.S. government issued a safety alert Monday. How do we measure the curative effects of new drugs against the side effects and risks?
A: I am on Avandia and will discuss my options on Wednesday. I am going to request an older drug that has had longer to be observed. I have no idea what his recommendation will be but it will ultimately be up to me to decide.
Q: is there any problems after I stop taking the drug Avandia?
A: Hyperglycemia on the medium run. Get a blood plasma glucose measured after a month of stopping it.
If you stopped it because you had any undesirable effect with the drug, tell the physician that prescribed it to you.
Q: Is it safe to take Actos in view of the negative propoganda against a similar drug called Avandia.?
Does it cause heart problems like Avandia is supposed to according to New England Medical Journal. Has anyone read the reports in Lancet rebutting the reports in New England Medical Journal
A: I would avoid it:

Q: latest on the drug avandia. related to heart problems.?
A: I don’t know whether it is or not, but several years ago when I was diagnosed with diabetes, they tried to put me on Avandia. I did a quick search on google and wham!!!!!! HEART DISEASE, DEATH, ETC., was all I could find about Avandia. I elected NOT to take the stuff and asked my doctor for an alternative. There are other drugs out there that are not as controversial, and the risk is not worth it to me. Diabetes already carries too many problems, without the possibility of a drug that’s gonna compound the problems.
Q: Can I sue the drug company?
I was given AVANDIA when I became diabetic Idid not know that the drug was not approved by the FDA yet. It caused me to have a heart attack. I just learned last July that the drug AVANDIA causes heart attacks and was not approved until 1999, I took it in 1994. I did not know it was an experimental drug at the time and signed no release to be part of an experiment.
A: yes
Q: avandia and heart attacks?
i read in the paper today about a drug called Avandia causing heart attacks. my dad, 49, died of a heart attack about 2 months ago. He took Avandia in 2002 for about a year and again a 2005 for about 6 months. Could this have caused the heart attack even though he hadnt taken it in almost 2 years? He didnt have any known heart problems at the time, just diabetes.
A: The Avandia study is not out yet, and the media has reported it already. I wouldnt trust the medias interpetation of this.
Also , Diabetes increaces the risk for heart problems by itself.
You will never be able to sort out a cause past his inherit risk factors.
Q: Has anyone been prescribed Avandia to help them ovulate?
I was just wondering if anyone having trouble ovulating, has been put on this drug to help them ovulate? any advice or answer would be great help!!
A: it sounds like it might be clomid where i live and makes you produce more eggs and ovulation, i was on it for nearly 6 months and did what doc said but never got preg, but 3 mths after i was off it i got preg as it had put my body back in order, the only risk is multiples but there are no many people out there that don’t ovulate and don’t know, i caught mine when my period stopped, but we all have our problems as woman when it comes to having a baby, we just don’t hear about the bad side, upsetting side of feeling like a freak of not being normal and having normal ovulation, so take the pills and i will pray for you that you will Be alright as i know you will be.
Q: Are American aware of the The Avandia Scandal and Orin Hatch’s relationship with Pharma?
“The Avandia scandal is becoming quite a dog and pony show. On June 6, 2007 the New York Times revealed a stunning event that occurred in March of 2006 wherein FDA safety supervisor Dr. Rosemary Johann-Liang approved a black box warning on Avandia to warn about the risk for congestive heart failure. The von Eschenbach team, big pharma appointment to the FDA, ordered her to retract her approval of the warning. She was then stripped of her power to make such warnings and removed from supervision of the safety of Avandia. In other words, FDA management actively blocked a needed public warning regarding the dangers of this drug, consistent with eight years of FDA failures to ensure proper post marketing studies of Avandia regarding heart attack risk.
Avandia has a whopping 43% increased risk for heart attacks as well as an increased risk of death from using the drug. This information is only coming to light after eight years of use.” Byron Richards..http://www.wellnessresources.com
A: Yes we are, but, unfortunately the mainstream media here are mostly right wing conservative controlled and don’t cover it. We have to listen and read alternative news sources. Thanks for helping to get the word out. We’re a very sick country right now but there are lots of us working for change.
Q: how many of you think that avandia has to be banned ?
Glaxo really pushed the FDA in to releasing the drug into the market without warning the public about the safety concerns. phase II trials itself have shown an increased risk of heart attack.
A: As I am not a doctor or scientist, I will leave those big questions up to them.
I spoke with my doctor about it and made an informed choice about this medication.
I would never make a choice for anyone else.
Q: When will drug companies stop watching profits and start watching safety?

between avandia and vioxx thats many dead americans. Because drug companies control the FDA we have these problems.
netjr thanks for the vote of optimism but in Vioxx and likely in this one the data was falsified. They left out cardiac mortality!!!
A: Never! You are right though, the FDA IS controlled by the drug companies, and they controll most of congress too. This is why we don’t have a health care system in the US, because the drug co’s would lose all that fat money they are sitting on! Others lives means nothing to them, and its obvious.
Q: Why do patients take every new poison the drug companies hand out?
Between Vioxx and Avandia there are many dead americans. How about the new vaccine for cervical cancer when will we find out its not safe and it kills people?
A: Because people watch the commercials, and even if it isn’t for them, they go to their doctor and ask for the medicine. I know people who’ve threatened to go to a different doctor because ‘they’d give me the prescription,’ and usually, doctors cave in to that. If for nothing else than to be able to carefully monitor the patient’s status and thus stop them from continuing if someone goes amiss.
Of course, there are the doctors that love selling extraneous drugs, which of course are the ones that the patients threaten to go to.
Adverse vaccine reactions are very much like food allergies; you never know unless you take it.
Whereas the testing population were fine with peanuts, all you need is 1,000 people to develop a reaction to cause a ruckus. And now, my M&M Chocolates say ‘may contain peanuts.’
Q: Drug companies control the FDA and pass off their poison with a federal rubber stamp why do we let this happen
Avandia and Actos are clearly labelled poison after years of hype about how great they are for you. Will people begin to realize drug companies are in it for the cash only? They supress evidence that what they sell is highly dangerous while showing on commercials the happy heathy people that you imagine are actually taking these medications.

A: It is a crime and a half. Yet Condi Rice stated on national TV that Canadian drugs are unsafe. These people are lying to keep the Pharm companies in the $100s of billions in profit margin
edit: Sad to hear about jb’s mom…
Q: Has anyone had a problem on the Accord study for diabetes?
Does anyone feel very overmedicated on the Accord study for diabetes? Has anyone had problems with Avandia? New drugs and incredible increases in number and dosages seem to be causing problems.
A: ACCORD is a five to eight-year program sponsored by the National Institute of Health and currently is conducted in more than 70 medical clinics in the United States and Canada. In the US approximately 16 million people, nearly six percent of the population, live with diabetes. Those with Type 2 diabetes have additional problems with high blood pressure as well as high cholesterol, which combined with diabetes can add to a higher risk of heart disease.
The ACCORD study is aimed at testing the effects of intensive control of blood sugars on risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attack and stroke. Each patient will also be studied for the effects of intensive control of blood pressure or cholesterol on these effects as well
Q: Is your Quack Doctor. Killing you with Actos or Avandia?
I have been for years trying to tell people not to use avandia or actos. Before it was because of problems with heart disease. Now it is with bone disorders.
glitazone” diabetes drugs Actos and Avandia may double or triple the risk of broken bones after a year or two of use.
The finding comes from Swiss researchers who analyzed 12 years of data on U.K. diabetes patients. They compared the 1,020 patients who suffered some kind of fracture to 3,728 matched patients who did not break any bones.
Over the course of the study, most of the patients took several diabetes drugs. But those who refilled their Actos or Avandia prescriptions eight times or more — about 12 to 18 months of use — had nearly twice the fracture risk of other patients.
And those who refilled their Actos or Avandia prescriptions 15 times or more — two or more years of treatment — nearly tripled their risk of fracture, found Christophe R. Meier, PhD, head of pharmacoepidemiology research at University Hospital Basel, Switzerland, and colleagues.
“We found a very strong signal here for higher risk of fractures in people taking glitazones,” Meier tells WebMD. “Our evidence fits together nicely with animal models and clinical reports suggesting that these drugs have a detrimental effect on bone. And we did not find any increased risk for other diabetes drugs, so all together, it looks like something really is going on here.”
A: I took actos for a while. I also took the one that people were dying from-I woke up one morning and this black lady had died from liver disease. The thing no one talked about is that that same pill caused my hair to thin. That would have been nice to know too.
But you do realize that when you start taking all the meds, you are betting that the damage your liver, kidneys, etc caused by the meds will lengthen your life longer than not taking them. What’s the bigger killer is the doctors that have a blase attitude about what diabetics need and the importance of getting their sugar under control. I went to a doctor for years that overpilled me and just told me I needed to go on a diet. If I could have controlled my eating more, I wouldn’t have diabetes. I was given pills with no way to control my sugar. You take the pills and eat less, then your sugar is low and you can’t function. I finally found a doctor and I take what I need and alter to fit what I’m eating. . .as I should have been years ago. It’s oh no, you can’t possibly be smart enough to do that. Please, it’s my life and absolute control is necessary from the very beginning instead of all the ups and downs. Or at least give people a choice-learn and take care of yourself or just take the pills, whatever the consequences. I’m on my way to googling glizazones. Thanks. . .
